The DVD follows a team from Duxford in Cambridgeshire who wished to return a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane back into the Malta skies for the first time since the RAF left following the end of the Second World War.
The documentary traces project’s near failure through to the aircrafts’ unforgettable arrival through Valletta’s Grand Harbour.
The Battle for Malta, although overshadowed by the Battle of Britain, was violent and costly.
Uniquely the hardships were shared by the civilian population.
Introduced and narrated by MARTIN SHAW (Judge John Deed, Cranford, The Professionals), the story of the Merlins Over Malta project is interspersed with the story of Malta’s war. The DVD includes the original newsreel footage of the siege of Malta, the air battles and the desperate bid to re-supply the islands via Merchant convoys. |
